members serve our church in . . .

We seek to empower our members of St. Matthias Episcopal Church to carry out various ministries inside and outside the church. The joy you receive is very satisfying when you actively participate in the spiritual life of the church. All that we do is aimed at serving God and His children and preserving His creation. Whatever your talents, interests or passions, we invite you to find your place at St. Matthias and the work we do.

Community Ministry
St. Matthias is a long-standing and valued institution in the historically Black East End neighborhood.  We have recently revitalized our collaboration with the East End/Valley Street Neighborhood Association (EEVS) in two ways:
1) Food Outreach Ministry: St. Matthias’ congregants are providing non-perishable food and personal hygiene and sanitation items on a routine basis to the East End/Valley Street – St. James AME Church Free Food Pantry on the corner of Martin Luther King, Jr Drive and Hildebrand Street in East End.  The pantry serves East End’s low income residents as well as many of Asheville’s unhoused population.

2) Nutrition Hub Ministry at Dr. George Washington Carver Edible Park and EEVS Community Garden:  Volunteers from St. Matthias’ and our friends at the Church of the Red Door are participating in monthly work days at the historic Edible Park and new Community Garden.  Both the Edible Park and the Community Garden are key components of the Stephens-Lee Recreation Center’s Nutrition Hub, which are intended to address food insecurity in the community.
